Path of Exile 2 crafting is partly random. The odds and costs below are realistic estimates to set expectations — your results will vary roll to roll.

Fracturing Orb

Fracture a random modifier on a rare item with at least 4 modifiers, locking it in place..

When to use: Lock a great mod permanently, then safely reroll the rest.
How: Right click this item then left click a rare item to apply it. Cannot be used on Fractured items.

Orb of Augmentation

Augments a Magic item with a new random modifier.

When to use: Add a Magic item's second mod before regalling it to Rare.
How: Right click this item then left click a magic item to apply it. Magic items can have up to two random modifiers.

Orb of Transmutation

Upgrades a Normal item to a Magic item with 1 modifier.

When to use: Step 1 of building from a white base — turns it Magic with one mod.
How: Right click this item then left click a normal item to apply it.

Scroll of Wisdom

Identifies an item.

When to use: Identify drops. Never a crafting decision — just identify and move on.
How: Right click this item then left click an unidentified item to apply it.

Exalted Orb

Augments a Rare item with a new random modifier.

When to use: Fill empty slots on a Rare. The workhorse of mid-game crafting — pair with Omens.
How: Right click this item then left click a rare item to apply it. Rare items can have up to six random modifiers.

Orb of Alchemy

Upgrades a Normal or Magic item to a Rare item with 4 random modifiers.

When to use: Cheapest way to a usable Rare fast. Totally random — great while leveling.
How: Right click this item then left click a normal or magic item to apply it. Current modifiers are not retained.

Regal Orb

Upgrades a Magic item to a Rare item, adding 1 modifier.

When to use: Promote a controlled 2-mod Magic item to Rare so you can keep adding mods.
How: Right click this item then left click a magic item to apply it. Current modifiers are retained and a new one is added.

Chaos Orb

Removes a random modifier and augments a Rare item with a new random modifier.

When to use: Removes ONE RANDOM mod and adds a new random one — you don't choose which it removes. An Omen of Whittling makes it remove the lowest-level mod instead, which is far safer.
How: Right click this item then left click a rare item to apply it.

Orb of Chance

Unpredictably either upgrades a Normal item to Unique rarity or destroys it.

When to use: Gamble a white base into a Unique. A lottery, not a plan.
How: Right click this item then left click a normal item to apply it.

Divine Orb

Randomises the numeric values of modifiers on an item.

When to use: Perfect an item — reroll a low roll toward max. Never changes which mods you have.
How: Right click this item then left click an item to apply it.

Mirror of Kalandra

Creates a Mirrored copy of an item.

When to use: Duplicate a rare item. The rarest currency in the game — a trophy.
How: Right click this item then left click an equipable non-unique item to apply it. Mirrored copies cannot be modified.

Orb of Annulment

Removes a random modifier from an item.

When to use: Removes ONE RANDOM mod — it can hit your good mod, so it's a gamble. A directional Omen restricts it to one pool (Sinistral = a prefix, Dextral = a suffix); the choice within that pool is still random.
How: Right click this item then left click on a magic or rare item to apply it.

Sacred Orb

Randomises the numeric values of base defences on an armour.

When to use: Reroll the numeric base stats (defences/damage) of an item.
How: Right click this item then left click an armour to apply it.

Vaal Orb

Modifies an item unpredictably and Corrupts it.

When to use: A final, irreversible gamble for extra power. Never on an item you can't lose.
How: Right click this item then left click an item to corrupt it. Corrupted items cannot be modified again.

Hinekora's Lock

Allows an item to foresee the result of the next Currency item used on it Modifying the item in any way removes the ability to foresee.

How: Right click this item then left click an item to apply it.

Armourer's Scrap

Improves the quality of an armour.

When to use: Quality armour (up to 20%) before crafting for higher defence rolls.
How: Right click this item then left click an armour to apply it.

Blacksmith's Whetstone

Improves the quality of a martial weapon.

When to use: Quality a MARTIAL weapon (up to 20%) before crafting — it multiplies the result. Wands/staves/sceptres use Arcanist's Etcher instead.

Gemcutter's Prism

Improves the quality of a Skill Gem.

How: Right click this item then left click a skill gem to apply it.

Glassblower's Bauble

Improves the quality of a flask.

When to use: Quality a flask or charm (up to 20%) before crafting.
How: Right click this item then left click a flask to apply it.

Destroys an Equipment item, returning any non Socket-Bound Augments socketed in it.

Artificer's Orb

Adds an Augment Socket to a Martial Weapon, wand, staff or Armour.

When to use: Add a rune socket so you can slot a Rune or Soul Core for guaranteed stats.

Lesser Jeweller's Orb

Sets a Skill Gem to have 3 Support Gem Sockets.

When to use: Add a 3rd support socket to a skill gem (sockets are on gems in PoE2).
How: Right click this item then left click a Skill Gem to apply it. Can only apply to Skill Gems with fewer than 3 Support Gem Sockets.

Greater Jeweller's Orb

Sets a Skill Gem to have 4 Support Gem Sockets.

When to use: Push a core skill toward its 4th support.
How: Right click this item then left click a Skill Gem to apply it. Can only apply to Skill Gems with fewer than 4 Support Gem Sockets.

Perfect Jeweller's Orb

Sets a Skill Gem to have 5 Support Gem Sockets.

When to use: The 5th and final socket on your main skill. Expensive — reserve it.
